Hummingbirds are coming

written by Drew Weber

For everyone who is really itching for northbound migration to swing into action, there is some good news- the first Ruby-throated Hummingbirds have made it across the Gulf. The folks over at hummingbird.net are accepting sightings of hummingbirds so give their site a look and let them know when you see your first hummingbird. Up here in central Pennsylvania where there is still snow on the ground, the first hummingbirds are still about 2 months away but you can watch their progression northward on the hummingbird.net site.

Hi, just FYI, your link to the hummingbird site, above, links to a SPAM advertising site that opens talking advertisements and such and no hummingbird stuff. You might check the link. Thanks!

Can anyone tell me if their is a publec banding demo for Hummingbirds in Central PA?

I don’t know of any public hummingbird banding demo in the surrounding area. Not many people are banding hummingbirds in large enough numbers that it would be worth it.

I love hummingbirds, as soon as spring came, I started putting my feeders back…I am seeing some hummers in my garden too lately, as they are very much attracted to my lantanas and roses.
