  The tail seems to fit blackpoll more than Tennessee, but the bird looks more Tennessee to me. This is why I live in the west.

  By the by Warbling vireo doesn’t have a tail pattern like this.

  I don’t know if it had enough total yellow underneath for me but the sun did produce a noticeable yellow throat – I’m saying Philadelphia Vireo.

  Why not? White tail covets, under tail pattern seem to suggest Blackpoll. When I enlarged and froze the video toward the end I thought I made out white wing bars. So I’m going with Blackpoll.

  I thought I left a response, but don’t see it. Undertail, light leg color, what seems to be wing bars when you freeze the video toward the end would indicate Blackpoll.

  Pause the video right when the bird takes flight (@16 seconds) and the bird’s true identity is revealed. Indeed, this SANDHILL CRANE not only has the expected undertail pattern, it has bold wingbars and contrasting dark wings as well.

  I’d say Blackpoll Warbler. Thin bill rules out vireos. The strong wingbar rules out Orange-crowned and Tennessee. This would, in my mind, leave the Baypoll/Pine group. I think I see streaking on the back when the bird flies, eliminating Pine. Also, there are faint streaks on the bird’s breast suggestive of Blackpoll.

  This is a dang good quiz! A couple possibilities here. I’m on the fence with a few, but jumping on the Blackpoll wagon. Looks to be strong wing bars on the warbler just as it flies away and a good match with the undertail pattern/ other characteristics.

  I am withdrawing my vote for WAVI. The bill and underside of the tail are not right for a vireo. I can also see a pretty strong wing-bar when it tucks into its dive at the end. In the field, I would probably count this as an unID’d bird, but I would lean toward one of the Setophaga warblers. I’ll go with Blackpoll. I might feel a little better if I could see the back – any streaking?

  Strong wingbar and white undertail coverts coupled with faint broken eyering, pale superciliary line, and yellowish wash throughout breast. Leads me to HY Blackpoll Warbler, but for some reason I’m not satisfied. It might be because it’s perched on Common Evening Primrose, which means it’s in low vegetation. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a BLPW near the ground. Exceptions always exist I guess . . .
