Migration update: And we’re back, as are the birds

Fall migration is definitely back in session. Reports of a wide number of migrants have been trickling through the listservs and now the weather patterns are starting to push larger numbers of birds south. I’ll try to post some more information on interpreting radar in the near future, as well as put some effort into interpreting the migration each morning. As always, this type of effort benefits from info from you, the reader. Let me know what you are seeing, how the flight was in your area, and if it panned out as expected in the comments below. Better yet, paste in your eBird checklist (or the URL) so you can share it with everyone!

Regional Overview

The radar should a moderate N -> S movement of birds across the entire region. We are still on the early side of passerine migration but there are still a lot of species to see if you are able to find some feeding flocks. Check out the list that the Morning Flight counters in Cape May tallied.
