Delaware Goose-a-palooza 2016

NemesisBird.com would like to invite you to participate in a new mid-Atlantic birding event, dubbed the Delaware Goose-a-palooza which will be held on Saturday, February 27th, 2016!

In short, this will be a one-day birding extravaganza of rare goose searching. The vision is to assemble multiple one-vehicle teams to cover assigned territories throughout Delaware (and potentially beyond). The objective is simple: Locate goose flocks in your territory and spend some quality time searching through them. In addition to keeping a rough tally of the number of individual geese (preferably using the eBird mobile app), the overarching theme is to keep an eye out for rare species and oddities.

The main rarity targets are PINK-FOOTED GOOSE and BARNACLE GOOSE. Other possible species would include GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE, ROSS’S GOOSE, and CACKLING GOOSE. Teams will also be expected to keep tabs on the more common species, SNOW GOOSE and CANADA GOOSE, and for the coastal teams BRANT.

So mark your calendars and be ready to get your goose on! If you would like to participate, please email Alan Kneidel (akneidel@gmail.com) privately, and be sure to mention any territories you prefer to cover. As teams sign up and we get closer to the date, we will create a territory map and also be posting more details on the event! Stay tuned!
