I spent a few days in Virginia this past week finishing up preparations for the upcoming field season. I split time between Norfolk and Wakefield. I tried for Red-cockaded Woodpeckers four times, but was unsuccessful on each attempt. As I was scouring BirdsEye for nearby notable sightings, I saw that there were numerous Anhinga reports south of Virginia Beach, so I decided to check it out. After a 30 minute drive from Old Dominion University, I was rewarded with my lifer Anhinga! Actually, there were two adults and three nestlings!
